Darin Cash is an active trombonist and brass teacher who currently lives and works in west Texas, yet maintains close ties with the Austin music scene.  He has held the positions of assistant principal trombone with the Austin Lyric Opera Orchestra since 2004 and second trombone with the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale since 2007.  He also performs frequently with various central and west Texas orchestras, including the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Mid-Texas Symphony and Lubbock Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Cash has held faculty positions at the Georgia State University School of Music and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and also maintains a successful private trombone studio. An avid promoter of chamber music, Dr. Cash has participated in educational concerts for the Austin Chamber Music Center and Austin City Brass Quintet.  He is a founding member of Austinbones trombone quartet, and is also a member of the Austin City Brass Ensemble, a large concert brass ensemble for which he performs on trombone and euphonium.

He has participated in several trombone competitions in recent years.  In 2001 Darin was awarded runner-up in the International Trombone Association’s Frank Smith solo competition, and in 2003 he was a finalist and prize-winner in the Zellmer-Minnesota Orchestra trombone competition.  He has also performed or presented master classes at music festivals across the United States, in Europe, and in South America.

Dr. Cash holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in trombone performance from The University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Bachelor of Music in music education from The University of Texas at Arlington.  His primary teachers include Nathaniel Brickens, Andrew M. Russell and Charles Enloe.
